Up The Road Films

In 2020, Hummingbird Communications met the award-winning indie film writer, director and producer, Lynn Dow when she was filming her short film “Compassionate Release” at a production studio company location on Staten Island. Since that time, Hummingbird has been there to provide support developing press releases, providing guidance on media engagement and working to garner financial support for her projects. This partnership notably helped launch the national cinematic and digital release of her feature film, “Bull Street,” which stars Emmy-winner Loretta Devine and Academy-winner Amy Madigan.

ABOUT UP THE ROAD FILMS AND LYNN DOW: Dow, was born and raised in Harlem, New York. After graduating from Columbia University, she left Wall Street to make films about matters of the heart. She has produced several award-winning short films including: “It’s Alright Dad” (2021), that won best short film at the Twin City Black Film Festival; “Compassionate Release” (2020) that features the Bob Dylan song, “I Shall Be Released,” won best screenplay and audience awards at the Chelsea Film Festival; “Still Harlem” (2018), which was selected to screen by Pan African Film Festival as part of their yearlong 30th anniversary celebration; and “Above the Sun” (2015). ExxonMobil Environmental Services — Former Houston Chemical Plant

Hummingbird Communications provided public affairs support related to the cleanup and disposition of the former Houston Chemical Plant Company. Working proactively with the client, we developed communication materials to engage key stakeholders, develop relationship and allies, and improve education about the clean-up efforts. Throughout the remediation activities, the local community was kept informed, meetings were held and concerns taken into consideration regarding the appropriate end use of the property.

ABOUT THE FORMER HOUSTON CHEMICAL PLANT: Comprised of 85 acres, the former Houston Chemical Plant, was purchased by Humble Oil and Refining, (ExxonMobil), for use as a fuel terminal from 1931 until 1968; the chemical plant remained in operation until 1994. In 1999 the United States (US) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and ExxonMobil signed an agreement to conduct a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) investigation of the former plant property. In August 2012 the US EPA issued a new Administrative Order formalizing oversight, and in July 2018, the US EPA terminated its Administrative Order stating that ExxonMobil satisfied the Order’s requirements relative to the investigation and remediation of soil and groundwater impacts from historical plant operations. This allowed ExxonMobil to consider productive end use of the property in cooperation with all stakeholders.
